Hulbert's Landing




The purpose of the Waterfront Renovation Project at Camp Magruder has been to continue to provide a safe place for people to develop and practice new skills, explore the lakes unique ecosystem, and grow in community together. The replacement of the boat dock was just one part of a three part process to improve and expand the waterfront opportunities at Camp Magruder. We replaced the swim dock in 2010, the boat dock in 2012, and hope to purchase new equipment in the coming years.




Last year, Camp Magruder had 32 hospitality groups and 24 conference camps request the use of the boats during their events for a total of about 3,000 people. This was roughly 1/3 the total number of people who came to Magruder in 2011.


This past week was bittersweet. In three days we celebrated the demolition of that old boat dock and the construction of Hulbert’s Landing (the new boat dock) to be named after Ted and Rosalie Hulbert. Ted was the Director at Camp Magruder for a number of years and Rosalie served as the Office Manager. They both embody the spirit of Camp and Retreat Ministries and continue to be passionate about what Camp and Retreat Ministries does in lives of so many people.




Hulbert's Landing is an incredible new structure that features a boat launch enabling people with limited mobility the opportunity to safely maneuver into boats on a stable surface. There are wider walkways around the boat slips that allow for people to walk to the end of them to board watercraft rather than having to climb over all the seats. This dock is slightly longer than the past one allowing lifeguards the ability to monitor the lake more effectively. It has a ladder attached so that people can get back on the dock easily should there be a capsizing event. But, the greatest part of it all is that the whole thing floats.

Camp Sunday and Fundraising


Sunday, April 22, part of the Camp Magruder leadership staff are headed to the First UMC in Eugene to help lead music for their Camp Sunday. If you haven't had a Camp Sunday at your church yet, ask someone when it is, or plan one yourself. Camp Sunday is a great time to share your love of camp with people and to encourage friends, family, and new church members to sign up for events. There is something for everyone at camp this year. Make sure to sign up by May 5th to receive the early bird discount. Check out www.gocamping.org for resources on putting together a Camp Sunday and for all the conference program offerings this year.


In the fall, the First UMC in Eugene agreed to pay for Camp Magruder's new boat dock. They will be having a special presentation to kick off fundraising efforts during their Camp Sunday. The service starts at 9:50 am with a good old fashioned camp sing-a-long. The church address is 1376 Olive Steet in Eugene. All are welcome to attend. If you can't make it to the service, but would like to contribute to the new boat dock, please make checks payable to the First UMC in Eugene with the memo "boat dock."

A New Roof

For the past two weeks Edwards Lodge has been under construction. It was time to get a new roof put on it.

Chairs, and Tables, and Windows... Oh My!

The dining hall has undergone a few upgrades in the past week with a few more to go. After much research and debate from the staff, we finally settled on a style and color for new tables and chairs. These are made from a sturdy plastic which makes them much lighter than the previous ones. Additionally, all the chairs and tables match.


The chairs are plastic mesh that allow them to flex. They are much more comfortable than the old metal folding chairs.


Last summer donations were made to purchase five new windows for the dining hall. These windows open and allow for much needed air flow in the dining hall. Each new window costs about $500. Donations can still be made to Camp Magruder to finish the remaining window replacements.
