January at Camp Magruder

We hope that you had a wonderful holiday season and are enjoying all the hope and promise that the start of a new year holds. It's been a while since our last post, so we'll briefly fill you in on what's been happening lately at Camp Magruder.

Christmas in July with the 2013 Summer Staff

Roof trusses were installed yesterday on the Shorehouse project and work continues to be steady in a forward direction. We are thankful for the crew from J.L.T. Construction who have worked tirelessly in rain, wind, and bitterly cold sunshine the past few weeks to make this dream a reality. We can't wait to watch the rest of it take shape and be able to offer a wonderful new space for people to gather and stay at Camp Magruder.

Groups are starting to trickle in for various retreats and we welcome their return. Camp just isn't quite the same or as much fun without our guests. The kitchen staff have been busy getting the kitchen and dining hall clean and set up for the first groups of 2014 and have enjoyed cooking for them. Our housekeeping staff have been deep cleaning buildings returning their sparkle and making old buildings look like new.

Deans have been selected for the 2014 program camping season and recruitment for counselors, theologians, and summer staff is in full swing. We are also planning and preparing for our annual Counselor in Training and On-Site Training events this spring. We are looking forward to trying new games, crafts, and songs this year as well as enjoying some of our favorite activities again. If you are interested in volunteering at Camp Magruder this year contact Amy Wood, Program Services Director, at program@campmagruder.org or 503-355-2310. We've had a beautiful few days on the coast. If it weren't for the frost and cold, you'd think it was summer.
